Google to Delete Location Data

Google will delete location data after people visit abortion clinics, domestic violence shelters and other sensitive locations, the tech giant announced in a blog post Friday. The update “will take effect in the coming weeks,” Jen Fitzpatrick, a senior vice president at Google, wrote in a blog post. Read more

Thousands of children at risk from grooming gangs as hackers leak their private details to the dark web. Hackers stole private data including photocopies of children’s passports, disciplinary records and child protection reports relating to vulnerable pupils. Read more

China Police Database Hacked

In a post on the online hacking forum Breach Forums last week, someone using the handle “ChinaDan” offered to sell nearly 24 terabytes (24 TB) of data including what they claimed was information on 1 billion people and “several billion case records” for 10 Bitcoin, worth about $200,000. Read more

Digital ID to be Developed

Saskatchewan’s Information and Privacy Commissioner says “the time has come” for the development of digital identification in the province. “Digital ID would be a convenient and easy identification solution that’s made with the security and encryption we need to securely perform transactions and access services online,” Kruzeniski said. Cruise Line Fined for Data Breaches

A New York state regulator on Friday fined cruise line operator Carnival Corp $5 million for “significant” cybersecurity violations, following four security breaches from 2019 to 2021 that exposed substantial amounts of sensitive customer data. Read more
